The Beast - Early concepts for graphic novel

The Beast is a project that I've played around with for a couple of months.  The concept centers around a WWII M3 Half track that manages to survive a nuclear holocaust.  Shortly after the holocaust aliens arrive and deem the Earth theirs since humans aren't responsible enough to take care of their planet.  Aliens begin terraforming and what's left of the human population resists.  That is the backdrop, anyway.  The idea would be that the half track is the main character and is passed along to different owners (Via death, debt, gift, stolen, etc.,)  Right now I have a fairly strong origin story that plays right into a good set of given circumstances.  Still deciding whether I should use humans or animals for my cast.  Between this, the Bone King and our Squids stories I've got my hands full.

Skull Sucking Squid

I guess the last and first week of the year are always going to be hard for posting.  So here is a "commission" of sorts.  Most of my friends know that I can't stop drawing skulls (And have been since high school) so this post will come as no surprise to most.  One of my best friends asked for me to draw him a squid for a tatoo and went on to elaborate the idea of the squid sucking on a skull.  While I do not feel the picture depicts a lot of suction going on, I felt it was a good compromise.  Especially seeing how I have no idea what part of the body he plans to have this inked!  Hopefully he'll let me post a picture of the work once its completed.  Have fun Joe!

Scribbles for the Nephews

I am lucky enough to have two nephews, one 2 the other 4, that have re-invigorated my imagination and hope in life.  They have also gotten me back into drawing.

Christmas Cards

Just a quick post as the holidays get going.  Bridget and I have been working on a Christmas card on and off for the last couple of weeks.  So I thought I'd post the initial concept and a couple of the preliminary drawings.  I'll post the actual card closer to X-Mas

Concept Drawings and a Lobster

Here are a couple of concept drawings of "The Residence" Series. Most of these were done a couple years ago but I can't seem to shake the ideas created back then.  I'll post more as time goes.

Bridget and I recently took a vacation to Maine (Which was beautiful!) and I wanted her to be open to Maine delicacies. Well, Lobster. And just about the time I had her convinced she could handle Lobster I drew this for her... Devil's advocate, anyone.

First Post!

I had hoped to start this blog around Halloween and here it is December. Just never enough time. Right Now I'm currently working on a Children's book with Bridget loosely inspired by this years Halloween card. An odd tale of friendship and despair!

I also thought it would be good to post a couple of my more recent Digital Illustration projects. These are drawn from "The Residence," a short story that manifested itself a while back. Curiously enough, Bridget and I brainstormed many of the characters on a flight from DC to Denver for a friends wedding, over four years ago (Also, I can’t take complete credit for their initial creation). It has taken quite a bit of time to get to this point and I hope to continue to composite these environmental portraits in time. Who knows maybe even see the short story in a more graphic form than just written words! I'll post some concept drawings soon. For now, I'll consider this a start
